In 2024, we were by your side, watching your every transaction (for your benefit, we promise) without judgment! Based on this, we introduced the “Year in Review” feature on our mobile banking app. This feature provides financial insights for every user. But before we dive into how it makes managing your finances easier and clearer, let’s share some fun facts about how our customers spent their money last year.

How did our customers spend their money in 2024?

2024 was full of spending, shopping, and even funny moments, as shown in the numbers we gathered. If your money could talk, it would have many stories to tell about travel adventures, shopping sprees, late-night shawarma cravings, and your daily coffee fixes!

Whether you’re all about enjoying the moment, having a strict savings plan, or just trying to balance between wants and needs, you’ll likely find yourself somewhere in these numbers. Ready to see what our data says about 2024? Let’s take a look!

  • Travel: Our customers bought 33,476 travel tickets in 2024. But it seems like most trips didn’t include souvenirs for loved ones! 😑
  • Fitness: 33% of our customers signed up for gym memberships. But the real question is, how many of them actually went? 🤭
  • Food and coffee: 13,802,561 payments were made at restaurants and coffee shops. Whoever said "food is the way to a person's heart" was definitely onto something!
  • Education: A lot of money went toward school and university fees, but those costs were so high we couldn’t even keep track of the total 😂.
  • Bills: 6,000,000 bills were paid in 2024! If there were a competition for bill payers, our customers would win first place!
  • Gas: Our customers drove a total of 803,276,657 km, enough for 1,045 round trips to the moon! 🌕 Okay, maybe not quite that many, but it’s still a massive journey!
  • Transfers: 42,000,000 transfers were made in 2024! Clearly, “I’ll pay you back later” was a popular phrase! 😂
  • Donations: Our customers donated 712,750 JOD through our mobile banking app. Their generosity is unmatched — big hearts and helping hands all around! 🥰

The “Year in Review” feature

This feature gives you a detailed breakdown of your financial activities over the past year, helping you spot spending patterns and areas where you can cut back. Here’s what you can discover with this feature:

  1. Card usage: The total number of transactions made with your cards and which card you used the most.
  2. Top spending categories: The categories where most of your money went. For example, services, shopping, education, or health.
  3. Most visited stores: A list of the top 5 places where you spent the most money.
  4. Cashback: The total cashback you earned on purchases when using our cards, along with the stores that gave you the highest amounts.
  5. Peak spending months: A breakdown of your monthly spending to see which month was the most expensive.
  6. Investments: Your key investment decisions in stocks and your total earnings.
  7. Transfers: The most frequent transfer methods you used, whether domestic or international, and the people or organisations you transferred money to the most.
  8. Bills: A list of the top bills you paid in 2024, from utilities to other essential services.

How can this feature help you plan for 2025?

By reviewing your spending habits, you can set priorities and improve your financial behaviours. Here are a few tips to start 2025 on the right foot:

  1. Automatic savings

Set aside a fixed amount to be automatically transferred to your savings account each month through the standing order feature on our app. This helps you build an emergency fund or save for long-term goals.

  1. Track your expenses

Use our app’s tools to monitor your spending. This habit gives you a clear view of your spending patterns and helps you make better decisions. Try the "Monthly Spending Report" feature for a snapshot of last month’s expenses, accessible in the Spending Analysis section at the start of each month. You’ll find a chart showing spending patterns, total earnings and expenses, top 3 spending categories, largest purchase, and total cashback earned. It also lets you compare expenses across months.

  1. Set a monthly budget

Establish a realistic budget and stick to it as much as possible. Have you tried the 50/30/20 budget? With this method, you divide your monthly income into 3 categories: 50% for essentials like bills and rent, 30% for variable costs like travel and shopping, and 20% for savings and debt repayment.

  1. Invest

Consider investing part of your savings in stocks (whole or fractional ones) through our app, starting at just $1. Or invest in gold by creating a gold account and start buying and selling gold conveniently from your phone. These options can grow your wealth over time.
